Duties Description Trailside Museums and Zoo is a 30-acre site located within Bear Mountain State Park. This location includes 15 outdoor animal exhibits, 5 stone buildings, 4 regional nature museum buildings, a stone residential house, 1 mile of paved trail, a historical Revolutionary War site, and a forested area. The facility has native plant species gardens among other landscaping features. Under the direction of the Facilities Manager at Trailside Museums and Zoo, the selected candidate will perform duties related to maintenance and repair of the grounds and buildings. This position also involves working in a zoo environment where animals are present. Duties include, but are not limited to:- Clean grounds, roadways, and structures by sweeping, raking, shoveling, weed whacking, mowing, and removing by hand debris, leaves, branches, snow, ice, or trash.- Assist as a supervisor of maintenance and small building projects. Manages time, project scope and plan for lower-level seasonal position. Comple materials list, timeline, and steps to project completion.- Perform maintenance activities, including the below:o Fix or replace shelves, locks, repair fencing, or other routine tasks.o Unclog toilets and sinks; replace faucets and washers.o Assist in the repairing of roads, paths, benches, trails, cabins, picnic shelters, and various equipment.o Assist skilled or semi-skilled trades positions by performing a variety of relatively unskilled tasks. - Clean restrooms and buildings; pick up litter.- Perform interior and exterior painting tasks.- Perform minor repairs to a variety of structures and buildings.- Clear sites, preparing them for planting, and plants seeds, trees, shrubbery, and flowers.- Use and maintain tools and equipment properly.- Utilize proper Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) during work tasks.- This position involves physically demanding work outdoors on uneven and steep terrain in a variety of weather conditions for extended periods of time. This includes carrying and moving tools, materials, and equipment weighing 50 pounds or more. - Read and understand written instructions and material. - Communicate effectively with other staff and park patrons in a responsible and courteous manner under stressful conditions. - Adhere to the agency's Code of Conduct Policy and ensure compliance with all guidelines, policies, and procedures in the performance of daily tasks.

Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS: - Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.- Must be able to work one weekend day and some holidays.BENEFITS:This position has the option to join the NYS Employees' Retirement System and may be eligible for health insurance, dental and vision coverage as well as the opportunity for paid time off in the form of vacation, sick, personal and holiday leave after time and service requirements have been met.
